[back]  [next] Session 6: Designing and Producing WBT

A. DESIGN

We will continue our description of the phases for developing WBT begun in Session 5, using the Phases of WBT Development form. This section will focus on the design phase and its steps and considerations in creating the look, feel and/or style of a Web site. It is important to note that the design phase actually overlaps the conceptualization and preproduction phases discussed in the last session. Many decisions about design and navigation get made together with decisions about site lay-out and features.

A.1. Steps in the Design Phase

The design phase involves the following steps:

  • Develop designs for Web pages
    • Layout for splash page and home page
    • Layout for session pages
    • Color palette
    • Fonts and font sizes
    • Frames, tables and page size
  • Develop overall design elements, including backgrounds, features, graphics or icons used consistently
    • Specify art work and graphics for design elements
    • Collect existing photos and graphics and process images
  • Develop/contract for art work and graphics
