Preparing Personnel to Serve Children with ASD

In response to states’ interest, NECTAC queried Part C and Section 619 Coordinators regarding certification or endorsements for personnel working with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder ASD) and how states provide services for children diagnosed with ASD.

The National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) issued an "in Forum" brief policy analysis in October 2005 on that describes 5 states' endorsements in the area of autism.

National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorders

Funded in 2007 by OSEP. The mission of the Center is to provide resources, professional development, and technical assistance that will increase the number of highly qualified personnel serving children and youth with ASD. Interdisciplinary Technical Assistance Center (ITAC) on Autism and Developmental Disabilities

An initiative of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), works to improve the health of infants, children, and adolescents who have, or are at risk for developing, Autism Spectrum Disorders and other developmental disabilities. The Center provides technical assistance to interdisciplinary training programs to better train professionals to utilize valid and reliable screening tools to diagnose or rule out and provide evidence-based interventions for children with ASD and other developmental disabilities
