The new design of the NECTAC Web site, launched in November 2003, was developed to provide
better access for the continually expanding variety of new technologies and Web browsers
including assistive technologies for the Internet. The change to CSS-driven layout and
formatting makes the NECTAC Web site more accessible to today's Web browsers and specialized
browsing environments used by the visually or physically impaired. For most visitors,
our site is now easier to use, quicker to access, and more streamlined for updates and modifications.
NECTAC is committed to continually improving the site so as to comply with Web standards
outlined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Our site currently uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for most page design details.
The NECTAC Web team is currently working on a migration path that will employ a full standards compliant layout.
To help move Web technologies forward -- toward accessibility, security, and functionality,
NECTAC supports the W3C's Web Standards initiative, which encourages users to upgrade their
older browsers to newer versions
(MS Internet Explorer 7,
Netscape 9,
Firefox 2, or
Opera 9.2;
all are available free of charge). Older browsers such as Netscape 4.x, Internet Explorer 4.0,
WebTV were not designed to fully support CSS. Consequently, our site's appearance with
these older browsers may appear different, although the content is still readily accessible.
Visitors who continue to use older browsers will see a much simpler presentation -
one that offers the full content in a stripped-down design. Though we have done our
best to ensure the site renders consistently across different computers and browsers,
imperfections are bound to appear. If you continue to have issues in terms of access to the
content on our site, please contact our Webmaster, Robert Kraus or
Joan Danaher, Associate Director of NECTAC.
